Mission

To increase the combat effectiveness of the Corps by accomplishing mobility, countermobility, survivability and sustainment tasks. To perform combat missions in the role of infantry when required. To reinforce heavy brigade and armored Cavalry regiment engineer units when required.

History

Organized 8 December 1906 in the North Dakota Army National Guard as Company E First Infantry Regiment, Williston, ND.

Activated to Federal service on 18 June 1916 for service on the Mexican border. Inactivated on 14 February 1917 at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota.

Activated into federal service on 25 march 1917 and drafted into federal service on 5 August 1917. Reorganized and redesignated 4 October 1917 as Company E 164th Infantry, an element of the 41st division . Inactivated 28 February 1919 at camp Dix, New Jersey. (WWI)

Reorganized and Federally recognized 22 January 1921 as Company E, 1st Infantry , Williston, ND.

Reorganized and redesignated 21 October 1921 as Company E 1654th Infantry, an element of the 34th Division.

Activated to Federal Service 10 February 1941 at Williston, ND. (WWII)

164th Infantry relieved from assignment to the 34th Division 8 December 1941 and assigned to the Americal Division on 24 May 1942.

Inactivated 24 November 1945 at Ft. Lawton, Washington.

164th Infantry relieved from assignment to the Americal Division 10 June 1946 and assigned to the 47th Infantry Division .

Reorganized and federally recognized 1 May 1947 as Company E 164th Infantry at Williston, ND.

Ordered to Federal Service 16 January 1951 at Williston , ND (Korean War)

Company C 164th Infantry (NGUS) organized and Federally recognized 16 January 1953 at Williston, ND while the 164th Infantry was on Federal Service.

Inactivated from active Federal Service 2 December 1954 and reverted to state control and redesignated as Company C 164th Infantry; Federal Recognition concurrently withdrawn from Company C 164th Infantry (NGUS).

Converted and redesignated 15 October 195 as company C 164th Engineer Battalion and relieved from assignment to the 47th Infantry Division.

Activated to Federal Service 15 October 1961 at Williston, ND. (Berlin Crisis) Inactivated from active Federal Services 9 August 1962 and reverted to state control.

Reorganized and redesigned 1 April 1963 as Company A 164th Engineer Battalion.

Converted and redesignated 15 January 1968 as 1193rd Transportation Company at Williston, ND.

Reverted back to Engineer Company 1 March 1972 as Company B 164th Engineer Battalion.

The unit became Mechanized 31 August 1993 and remains that way today.

ANNUAL TRAINING MISSIONS

AT-97 - Beaver Bay, near Linton, ND

Company B had an outstanding Annual Training period 14 - 28 June 1997.The entire annual training period was dedicated to Supporting a River Crossing Operations with the 957th Engr Co. The unit experienced no major safety violations and gained valuable experience in how to support a river crossing operations.

AT-98 Camp Ripley, MN

Combined Arms Exercise support 1/113 CAV from Sioux City, IA. Annual Training Project was roadwork at Parshall Bay, near Parshall, ND.

AT- 99 NTC Fort Irwin, CA

The Unit supported the 5th Engr Bn as OPFOR. The unit supports the Bn installing counter mobility obstacles.

AT-2000 ODT mission Italy

The unit conducted base facility projects to improve the active duty post in Italy.

AT-2001 NTC & Mallard Island

Support Company C for National Training Center (NTC) and support 957th Engineer Co (AFBR)
on Mallard Island, Garrison, ND
